Our Vision for Early Years
In the Early Years at New Hartley First School our children are happy.  They are excited and motivated to learn through rich and challenging learning experiences; opportunities to explore and take risks, and first-hand experiences.

We have high ambitions for all our children and recognise that children have different starting points to their learning. We plan according to children’s stage of development so all can thrive and develop. We aim for children to be well-rounded individuals who are independent, resilient, and confident in themselves and with others.

Our partnership with parents means that parents have the opportunity to work closely with our Early Years practitioners to support children’s transition into the setting. We would like parents to feel secure in the knowledge that their child is well cared for and happy at school. Our parents are welcome to be actively involved in their children’s learning in school and are able to share learning experiences through ‘stay and play’ sessions, soft starts, learning journeys and volunteering. We recognise that parents are the first educators in children’s lives and value contributions to judgments about children’s development. We use this information to support our assessments and share information about what children need to do next to develop and thrive.

What we get up to in Early Years
We are always very busy in Early Years, have at look at these photos to see what we get up to!
Here you can keep up to date with our newsletter providing you with key information about the current topic, areas in Early Years where your child can explore and how you can help at home.
Early Years Phonics
As a school we follow the phonics scheme Read Write Inc and in Early Years this starts in Nursery
Read Write Inc has different handwriting phrases for each letter learnt
A video to help with how to sound each letter out
Newcastle United Football Club
Reception class had a brilliant sports afternoon with a coach from Newcastle Football Club.  The children learnt new skills and all had lots of fun.  It was great for the children to try something new,  they all listened carefully and the coach set up a brilliant socially distanced activity for all to enjoy!
Early Years remote learning activities
Whenever your child is isolating this is where you will find activities to do with them at home. Each week we will post a separate weekly plan for Nursery and Reception.  We will also occasionally be using Tapestry to set challenges and activities.
